Lightning Blamed for Fire on Rapids Rd

(NEWSTEAD)-Sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 AM Newstead Fire Company was called for a possible fire in the attic of a residence. Newstead, Akron, Clarence and Clarence Center Fire Companies responded to the call along with Twin City Ambulance, Erie County Sheriff’s and NYS Police. Rapids Road was closed from Moore to Crego Roads.

According to Newstead Fire Chief Bower, the cause of the fire was a possible lightening strike which caused an electrical fire in the attic. The fire was knocked down in approximately 5 minutes, and the firemen then ventilated the house. Damages are estimated at around $10,000. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
