Akron Full Memorial Day Weekend Schedule

Akron/Newstead-Akron veterans are planning a full schedule of Memorial Day activities May 29-31. A year after the Covid-19 lockdown canceled Memorial Day events, members of Newstead VFW Post 3180 and American Legion L.L. Tillman Post 900 will resume traditional observances honoring the memory of fallen veterans.

May 29, community volunteers will place flags on more than 1,000 graves of those who served in wars dating from the American Revolution to recent campaigns in the Middle East and Afghanistan.

May 30, Calvary Baptist Church, 12752 Lewis Road, will honor veterans at a 10 AM service. The veterans service organized by VFW Commander Frank Falkowski, will recognize Akron-area veterans representing every branch of the U.S. military. The service is open to all veterans, families and friends.

May 31, the Memorial Day parade begins at 9AM at Main Townsend streets. Observances at the GAR monument in Russell Park and behind the Akron fire hall will pay tribute to veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard
