Ed Rath, a six-term Erie County Legislator from Amherst, will officially launch his
campaign for the New York State Senate on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 10 a.m.
Rath will announce his candidacy to a crowd of supporters inside the historic
Williamsville Meeting House, 5658 Main Street, Williamsville.
Rath was first elected to the Erie County Legislature in 2007. His district includes
Amherst, Clarence, Akron, and Newstead. During his years in the Legislature, he
has been a fierce advocate for the reduction and reform of County government and
the reduction of property taxes. In 12 years in office, Rath has never voted for a
Rath is running to represent the 61 st Senate district, which includes portions of Erie,
Genesee and Monroe Counties. The seat is being vacated by Senator Michael
Ranzenhofer, who recently announced that he will not seek re-election.
