AKRON, NEW YORK (October 23, 2019) – Akron Schools, 47 Bloomingdale Avenue, Akron, will host a flu and pneumonia vaccination clinic on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 3:00PM to 6:00PM in High School GYM 3. The clinic is run by Wegmans Pharmacy.
It is recommended for those attending the clinic to park in the upper high school parking lot and enter GYM 3 from the outside of the building. Flu vaccinations are offered to individuals two (2) years of age or older. All shots are provided by Wegmans Pharmacists.
Wegmans Pharmacy accepts most regional and national health care plans including Blue Cross of WNY, Independent Health, Univera, Medicare and Fidelis. The flu shot is covered on most insurance plans with no co-payment.
Preservative Free vaccine is available for anyone who is pregnant. High dose vaccine for adults 65 and older is available.
Influenza (flu) is a serious, contagious disease in which complications attribute to about 36,000 deaths in the US each year. Influenza viruses are always changing so annual vaccination is necessary. Flu can make existing medical conditions worse and can result in pneumonia even in otherwise healthy individuals. If you are not vaccinated, you may spread influenza to others without having symptoms yourself. Without vaccination, you may get influenza and experience: fever, headache, sore throat, chills, muscle aches, cough and fatigue, lasting a few days to a week. In addition to feeling sick, this may result in lost wages and place a burden on co-workers and family members who may depend on you. Flu season peaks from January to February and it takes about two weeks to develop immunity after being vaccinated.
