In my travels around town, I learned something yesterday.
We are on the verge of losing our New Years Eve Ball Drop AND our 4th of July parties!
Monetary support for New Years AND our 4th of July Festivities comes partially from The Village, and the rest usually gets picked up by local business and individuals. For some reason the local business and individual portion of donations has gone down, and this year the Ball Drop will run at a deficit if nothing is done. We need to raise $1,000 to pick up the slack. We are in the Danger Zone (sorry for the ear worm) of losing our town’s celebrations.
Only THREE people showed up at the last meeting. Meetings have been poorly attended and the committee needs some new blood! If you are interested in getting involved with the committee, and/or help fundraising PLEASE attend a meeting!
Regular meetings are scheduled for the third Thursday of the month at 7:00pm. They are held in the upstairs meeting room of the Akron-Newstead Library.
TONIGHT at 7PM. I know this is a hectic time of year for everyone, but let’s try and get involved so we don’t lose our parties. Come on out and brainstorm.
The Newsteader is looking forward to freezing and ringing in 2019 with everyone.
